Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving that begins the Christmas shopping season. Black Friday is a day known for being the busiest shopping day of the year, and many stores offer sales and promotions on this day. Consumers have been known to line up outside the store waiting for the doors to open so they can buy heavily discounted items, such as TVs and electronics. Since many consumers frequently have Black Friday off of work (although it is not an official holiday), this adds to the mayhem in crowded stores. This year, a Wal-Mart employee in Valley Stream, New York was trampled to death by shoppers who burst through the store’s glass doors before the 5 a.m. opening.
