With mile-high fuel costs, U.S. airlines are looking for alternative ways to generate additional revenue. This means no more free luggage for many of the top U.S. airlines. American, United, Northwest and U.S. Airways are now charging all passengers a fee for every checked item – including the first checked bag. In addition to luggage charges, U.S. Airways is charging passengers for soft drinks, bottled water, coffee, and tea. Other U.S. airlines, such as JetBlue and American airline, announced recently that they will soon be asking $7 for a pillow and blanket on some flights.
