Voting machines can be mechanical, electromechanical, or electric machines and are used to cast and count votes for U.S. elections. Sequoia Voting Systems is a voting machine manufacturer based in California. It is one of the biggest electronic voting systems in the United States, competing against voting machine manufacturers such as Diebold, Advanced Voting Solutions, and Unisyn Voting Solutions. Electronic voting machines were created so that voting could be more efficient and accurate, eliminating human error. During the 2008 Presidential Election, it was reported by voting machine vendors that electronic voting machines are more accurate than ever before. However, despite improved reliability, voting machine errors continued to pose problems during the 2008 primary elections in Florida, South Carolina, Ohio, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.
